I wanted to respond to the gentleman who called in this morning concerned about immigrants taking/creating our housing problem.

Pat's response was compelling but I felt as I often do when I hear anti-immigrant beliefs expressed that Americans forget our brutal foreign policy that has destabilized a lot of these places immigrants are fleeing from. We've waged war on civilians, meddled in their elections, and polluted their home places (climate change) to the extent that they have to leave.

As a Portland resident, born and raised here, I am being displaced and I don't attribute this problem to immigrants, I blame it on a city government that was in no way prepared for the flood of people moving here from other states, people much wealthier than I for whom the city has been eagerly making room for by building housing that only they can afford it seems.

Thanks for listening!
