Shona mbira and marimba music
Shona mbira and marimba music will be the focus of this week's program. Dumisani Maraire first introduced Shona mbira and African marimba music to North America in 1968. We'll hear some of Dumi's music from his time in the Pacific Northwest, plus music from his daughter Chiwoniso, Stella Chiweshe, and fellow mbira master Ephat Mujuru. We are in the midst of KBOO's Fall Membership Drive, and will be offering CDs from the mbira group Mawungira Enharira as thank-you gifts to new and renewing KBOO listener-members.
