So much has happened in the past three years that has been devastating to the transgender and non-binary community and so much resistance and brilliance has risen up from our communities. Under the current administration we have been inundated by scandal and disinformation. On this day we are participating with KBOO in focusing on hope and remembering all the positive ways in which we have resisted this creeping fascism that has failed to erase our identities.
We wish to acknowledge to the community that Mara Kiesling was our scheduled guest but we have removed that program which was planned to be aired as a review of the past three years. The executive leadership at the National Center for Transgender Equality has been consumed by a failure to address the very real concerns of our community, as evidenced by 2/3 of the staff at the center resigning and over 400 transgender community leaders signing a letter calling for the removal of Kiesling. We will dedicate a program to this fallout at the NCTE and invite the staff who have left to tell their story. In the meantime, hosts Jean and Emma will fill in for our planned program and review the past three years. We will talk about the ways in which the community has resisted, especially here in Portland, in spite of the devastation and loss we have experienced collectively and individually. We also discuss the importance of voting and running for office as so many transgender and non-binary people have done in the past three years.
