A DIFFERENT NATURE on 07/31/08

"Inner Cities" by Alvin Curran--Part II. Curran's more recent pieces have tended towards complex, often unfocused collage; regularly using audio and musical material one would never imagine side-by-side except in a piece by Curran. With "Inner Cities", Curran does this combined with stretches of extreme minimalism in a collection of 11 compositions for piano, each dedicated to a colleague such as: Margaret Leng Tan, Trisha Brown, Eve Egoyan, Frederic Rzewski and even the pianist you will hear performing: Daan Vandewalle. At over four hours it is impossible to air all of it in even two programs. But we will have aired the bulk of "Inner Cities" this and last week.
