A 27-year-old Muslim-American from San Diego, California, who was studying abroad in Costa Rica, is seeking an alternate way home after suddenly finding himself on the United States’ no-fly list.
On June 5th, Kevin Iraniha attempted to board a flight to the U.S. and instead found himself being questioned by the FBI about his political activities, and religious beliefs.
Iraniha had just graduated from a one-year Master’s program in international law from the United Nations-affiliated “University for Peace” in Costa Rica.
Today, the San Diego chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations held a press conference to call for the student’s safe and swift return to his home in California.
Iraniha is currently in Mexico City and en route to San Diego.
Hanif Mohebi, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic relations’ San Diego chapter, spoke with KBOO reporter Aaron Cohen about the situation.
