Indigenous group rallys against the tar sands.

On Monday, a group of indigenous activists gathered at Kelly Point Park in Portland to  demonstrate against the massive shipments of tar sands equipment that will be moving up the Columbia this spring. The equipment comes from South Korea, and is bound for Northern Alberta, Canada will it will be used to extract tar sands oil.

Shipments will make their way up the Columbia, then to the Snake River to the Port of Lewistion, Idaho where they will be transferred to trucks to make the rest of the journey North.

This demonstration follows a recent trend of protest in Oregon as more people become aware of the tar sands and the potential damage the shipments could cause the Columbia.
