Legislative Wrapup with Rep Tawna Sanchez
Monday, March 14th @ 6:30pm
90.7 FM in Portland or online
at kboo (dot) fm

Please join us on Monday, March 14th at 6:30 pm for Prison Pipeline on KBOO Community Radio for a discussion with Representative Tawna Sanchez about the recent 2022 legislative session and some of the legislation which was passed as well as legislation that did not get passed.  We will discuss recently passed  HB 4050 which extends OJRC’s pilot program, Re*Membering, which provides limited legal assistance to women incarcerated in Coffee Creek Correctional Facility (CCCF). The program helps clients identify non-criminal legal issues that are or might become barriers to successful reentry into the community, and work with them to resolve issues or plan around roadblocks. Examples of legal issue areas include: family-related, financial/debt, work-related, benefits, ID/driver’s license, and property-related.  We will also discuss SB 1510 which passed which requires police officer to inform stopped person of right to refuse consent to search.  Representative Sanchez will discuss the BIPOC caucus at the State Legislature and what effect this legislation can have in a positive way.

Representative Tawna Sanchez is a dedicated advocate and proven progressive who has spent her life helping strengthen the community around her. Tawna is Shoshone-Bannock, Ute, and Carrizo, and grew up in Portland. She has received a Bachelor of Arts from Marylhurst University, and a Masters in Social Work from Portland State University.
