And yes, today at KBOO we certainly and decisively celebrate our animal buddies with all our might. What would we do without them? Would we ever get outside the house and experience the world without our dogs? Could we ever brush off depression and despair without them? Would we be able to be our best selves without the direct supervision of our cats? What about pigs? Beyond being food for humans since time immemorial, guess what! If you don't eat them, they're just like dogs!!  And what about parrots?! They can easily live up to 50 years! Talk about a lifetime together.

What a day! Meow! Woof! Oink! Squawk!

First, we will hear from our own programmers and listeners:

medium_sherry_morisch.jpg

* Sherry Morisch, member of the board of directors at KBOO, and new programmer alongside Moses Ross, with their show ProgressivePDX, scheduled to premiere on Wednesday March 22nd 2023 @ 7pm, talks to us about her cats and parrots, and how precious and wonderful they are.

medium_ute_luppertz_and_shiva.jpg

* Ute Luppertz, local animal communicator, intuitive, certified pet death doula and animal counselor, KBOO listener, once guest on the monthly show Squirrels Know, shares with us the immense impact her dog Shiva has had on her human journey.

* After that, part of an episode of With Good Reason: The Pets We Love

small_wgr-podcast-art.jpg

In the earlier stages of the pandemic, when many people were still staying as close to home as possible, nearly 1 in 5 American households adopted a pet. Furry cats and snuggly dogs, as well as some temperamental pigs. Sherrie Clark is a veterinarian who treats and studies pet pigs. She says they make good pets for the right family. Plus: Relationships between dogs and humans go back 10,000 years. Nancy Gee says that today relationships between people and pooches improve health outcomes for everyone with two or four legs. And finally: Cats rule both the world and the internet, and they've been part of both from the beginning. Dylan Wittkower gets philosophical about why we can't stop making and sharing cat memes.
