The Unipiper, celebrated as the city’s Mascot of Weird, is Brian Kidd's alter ego. This Portland persona rides through the city on a unicycle while wearing a Darth Vader mask and playing bagpipes that shoot fire. The performance reliably leaves dumbfounded bystanders mouthing to themselves, What the hell?
Interviewed is the man behind the mask. Listen to how he came to realize his alter ego, and how he’s now rallying weirdos throughout Portland to preserve the eccentricity of the city through Weird Portland United, a non-profit X-Men team designed to battle the forces of normal.
