This Boxing Day post Christmas morning did not find Cecil or Celeste co-hosting their Monday Morning Chat. Someone in KBOO during this Community Radio Fund Raising Season substituted exactly the sort of programming that is needed. From Project Censored (perhaps the most over-achieving Community College outreach program in recent history as it comes from PCensored Staffer-Educators Mickey Huff, Allison Butler and Nolan Higdon down in Contra Costa County east of the East Bay at Diablo Valley Community College).

Prior to our Pandemic In Perpetuity shut down community gathering spaces I've been trying to find funding for leading just this sort of weekly meeting to study Media Savvy, who has it and what it is used for beyond the Public Relations and Advertising industry which is part of the corporate capture of our Corporation for Public Broadcasting as CPB=NPR+PBS+Corporate Underwriting and Neo-Liberal\Neo-Conservative E-CON policy indoctri-Nation and propaganda reinforcement. Leave it to real Public Interest educators like the PCensored staff to do this necessary work for resistance to our Pay2Play republic's slide into inevitable Oligarchy just as Washington with tax-payer funds spent decades of Public U.S. Treasure during the Cold War helped Wall Street and global bond markets manage when the Soviet Union's Cult of Personality often called Communism fell apart back at the tail end of the House of Reagan\Bush's Mourning In America era.

Nobody that made this fortuitous substitution in KBOO programming when Monday Morning Chat got snow\iced out in our White Christmas bothered to even note here on the Audio Archive page any info on what was being replayed and from which non-profit Public Interest organization.

Here it is then. This valuable program to begin anybody's course in the co-opting of a U.S. body politic survivors' curriculum of study in Media Literacy and Savvy. If like me y'all are terminal Media Studies students (perhaps a few Mass Communications majors with more interest in the theory than the Ad\PR Chop Shop Pay2Play U.S. media market, locally represented by global advertising firm Weiden\Kennedy where the best and brightest go to earn their living hawking the Nike bid-net model of outsourcing, financialization, privatization, de-professionalization and High Tech\HI FInance Neo-Feudalism via Monopoly\Anti-Trust without even one Public Interest national broadcaster insulated from corporate capture to salvage our DIY roots culture) give a listen, form study groups and let the kids know looking behind The Media and Wall Street's Wizard's broadcasting soundproofed curtains is way more fun than escapism!

Has Media Literacy Week Been Co-Opted?
Featuring Allison Butler and Nolan Higdon
October 21, 2022

Recorded on October 21, 2022

"On this Project Censored Show we discuss Media Literacy Week and more specifically Critical Media Literacy. We then discern the different approaches to media literacy which have been co-opted including corporate and a-critical media literacy. We explore this issue with experts Allison Butler and Nolan Higdon."
