Bill Carter's book "Boom, Bust, Boom" is an expose of copper mining.

Bill Carter moved to a former copper mining town because he liked the scenery and the counterculture population. He started a vegetable garden, but got sick when he ate from it. He then learned that his yard was made from mine tailings. He looked into the copper industry, and his book Boom, Bust, Boom is the result.
