Nuclear expert Arnold Gundersen speaks out about fuel rod removal, radiation releases and more.
The crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power facility in Japan continues to spew radioactivity into the air and water. The plant's operator, TEPCO, plans to begin removing damaged fuel rods from a cooling pond a hundred feet in the air using untried methods and technologies. A plume of radioactivity is moving across the Pacific towards North America. It's a disastrous scenario that is extremely difficult to comprehend the dimensions of, even for experts in the field. But we need to think about it, and to pressure the mass media, the nuclear industry, governments and international institutions to address. Join Paul Roland as he speaks with Arnold Gundersen, one of the few nuclear experts who is speaking publicly about the situation at Fukushima. Gundersen is a nuclear power whistleblower and a former nuclear industry executive and engineer with over 30 years of experience. He has questioned the safety of many U.S. nuclear plants, served as an expert witness in the ivestigation of the Three Mile Island accident, and has been providing ongoing commentary on the Fukushima Daiichi disaster. You can learn more about him at his organization's website, www.fairewinds.org.
