Renton, WA Police Target Cyber Stalker
The federal anti-stalking law was recently applied in Renton, Washington by the local police department against an online cartoonist. Police officials were angered by a series of cartoon parodies of the department that were posted on YouTube. They were able to obtain a search warrant to find the author of the cartoons, known by the handle ‘Mister Fiddlesticks’. But civil liberties groups who have examined the cartoons say there is nothing in them that constitutes ‘stalking’ behavior. The cartoons poke fun at the Renton police department for its booking procedures, alleged promotions of corrupt officers, and inappropriate conduct with female informants.
