The American Legislative Exchange Council is holding its annual meeting, where corporate representatives share pre-written legislation with Republican state legislators. The inner workings of the council, known by its acronym ALEC, were recently exposed by the Center for Media and Democracy, on the website alec exposed dot org. The website details the exposure of eight hundred pieces of so called ‘model bills’ written by corporations for their own benefit. Dozens of local reporters around the country have matched up model legislation with actual bills passed in state legislatures. The model bills focused mainly on de-regulation and privatization of government services.
