I am hopelessly snowed in, so Dennis Nyback - no stranger to driving through deep snow - gamely stepped in to take my place.
It's a wonderful program, as Dennis plays some things from radio's rich past and tells us a lot about it. Dennis was a walking encyclopedia of Americana and it was fun to listen to this show and see how clearly that his expertise went way beyond the films he's curated for most of his life.
Dennis mentions his radio play Calvin Coolidge Goes Crazy, which had been in the planning for several months. Because of the inclement weather mentioned earlier in the program (and which kept me at home and listening that night), the play had to be postponed until a later date. That date was three months later, in the following March. You can listen to the show here.
I sure miss Dennis and our friendship. He was a fascinating, yet down-to-earth fellow. He seemed to be of his own time, neither here, nor there but definitely very present when meeting him in person.
