Joseph Gallivan interviews painter Gabe Brown
On Tuesday January 19, 2016, at 11.30am Joseph Gallivan interviews painter Gabe Brown. Brown paints in oils on linen on board, as well as in watercolor on paper. She calls these works abstract narrative landscapes. She discusses adding layers of paint and removing them with a sander, working on up to 40 paintings at a time, and how she can tell when a work is finished. She is based in the Hudson Valley in New York state. She teaches at Fordham University in the Bronx and discusses the type of work she sees amongst the young art students.

From the press release:

Butters Gallery presents a solo exhibition of recent works by New York-based painter Gabe Brown. Included in this show are two styles of Brown’s work: oil paintings like the one pictured above along with her watercolor/mixed media works on paper with related, yet somewhat softer imagery. In her work, nature-based images interact with cultural images to form a mysterious narrative.
