Jacob Rubin speaks with KBOO's Frances Fagan
Jacob Rubin joins KBOO's Frances Fagan to discuss his debut novel THE POSER.  Rubin is speaking on March 26th  at 7:30PM Powell’s on Hawthorne.  You can view the book trailer online.

THE POSER is a strange and delightful comic novel that at its heart speaks to the power of performance, impersonation, acting, and what it means to find the essence of someone, and of yourself. In our contemporary climate of scripted-reality shows, the idea of becoming a star for performing yourself (Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, etc.) is by now completely normal. So what happens when your performance goes so far that you almost fool yourself?

In some refracted way, author Jacob Rubin’s life inspired his darkly comic novel. Like Bernini, Rubin is a performer and Times Square, a screenplay he co-wrote, was recently acquired by Focus Features.

While studying at Harvard, he was in a hip-hop group called Witness Protection Program that toured the Northeast from 2001-2004 with bands like Jurassic 5.Rubin also performed stand-up comedy at clubs around New York City, and was once a juggle-for-hire. Moreover, he comes from a long line of shrinks. His grandfather, Theodore Isaac Rubin, was among the most famous therapists of his time, wrote over 25 books and appeared regularly on the Phil Donahue and Oprah Winfrey shows.
