Interview with Jayne Miller, founder of Oregon Cougar Action Team
Host Stephanie Potter will speak with Jayne Miller, founder of the Oregon Cougar Action Team  (OCAT), who asserts that cougars are an apex predator necessary for the health of forest ecosystems. A citizen's initiative passed in 1994, banned the use of hounds to tree cougars (and make them easy targets). However the trophy hunting industry has recently encouraged the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) to propose 5 bills that would re-introduce these tactics. OCAT is urging the Oregon Legislature and ODFW to support a cougar management plan that respects voter opposition to hunting cougar with hounds, and that respects the science that shows how a mature and healthy cougar population sustains a thriving ecosystem.
